Many apartments in our cities come with compact kitchens, but a small space does not have to feel cramped. With a little planning, you can make every centimetre work harder.
Go vertical
Install wall-mounted racks or hooks for pots, ladles and utensils to free up counter space. Magnetic strips are also useful for knives and metal tools.
Use clear, stackable containers
Transparent airtight containers keep rice, lentils, flour and spices fresh while letting you see what is running low. Stacking them saves cupboard space and looks neat.
Make the most of cabinet doors
The inside of a cabinet door is perfect for hanging lids, cutting boards or small baskets.
Keep daily items within reach
Store the things you use every day, such as cooking oil, salt and your favourite spatula, near the stove. Less-used appliances can go on higher shelves.
Declutter regularly
Once every few months, remove expired items and duplicate tools. A tidy kitchen is faster to clean and far more pleasant to cook in.
